Utilizing our identity management data and technology (Quest One Identity), Western Carolina is expanding LMS (Blackboard) self-service capabilities for distance learning, compliance and training for automated accounts, courses, and reporting needs.

Western Carolina University recently migrated their LMS (Blackboard) to a SaaS environment and used the opportunity to expand the LMS capabilities for compliance, training, and distance learning using Identity Management. The initial capabilities are single-sign on and federated external authentication for all LMS accounts. Now, LMS accounts for distance learning are managed outside or external to WCU’s university account directory for student, faculty, and staff. Distance learning, through self-service, can request new accounts for distance learning courses with automated fulfillment meaning no more tickets to the help desk or waiting on an employee to manually fulfill their requests. Additionally, new self-service course request capabilities are planned for implementation for distance learning, compliance and training courses along with expansion of access for courses and accounts using more granular audiences and roles.
