This session will discuss how a teaching and learning center rallied behind "the force and a course"--to reimagine institutional support for faculty teaching online during a time of great university change. A course as old as the Galactic Republic was revisited, reconceived, and offered in various modalities, including a course version tailored specifically for faculty teaching composition and rhetoric.
This poster will illustrate the process used at Western Carolina University's Coulter Faculty Commons for reimagining professional development for online teaching faculty. The original 2014 course emphasized educational technology and course objective alignment; the revitalized course includes additional modules on creating online presence, universal design, a university syllabus template and LMS framework, acclimating to online teaching, academic integrity, finding and using web content, copyright and fair use, and evaluating your impact. The poster will impart changes in iterations of our online course, various constituents the course targeted, and course evaluation metrics.
The target audiences for this poster include new and experienced online teaching faculty, academic/education developers who work in a teaching and learning center, and educational technology staff.
Goals for this poster:
- to convey how accreditation guidelines can inform the module development of online PD courses (i.e. the C-RAC Interregional Guidelines for the Evaluation of Distance Education)
- to impart how an online PD course changes over time
- to share differeting stakeholder feedback – including online program directors and online faculty
