In the information technology (IT) arena, stakeholders and end-users have made it known about their frustration and dissatisfaction about the performance of IT projects. This presentation will discuss how lean-six sigma and project management processes were integrated at Winston-Salem State University to obtain the best project completion efficiency. Wateridge quoted a survey which reported that twice as many IT projects are considered to be ‘less successful’ than are considered to be ‘successful’ and lamented lack of research in examining the success factors for IT projects. This presentation will focus on specifically the project completion variance process, the baseline duration (original schedule) vs the project duration (actual schedule). Researchers are determining that non-technical managerial factors, such as project management timing and scheduling, play a crucial role in determining the success of a project (Thite, 2000). Supporting the notion that one of the end-users major frustration is project completion in a timely manner.

Target Audience: project managers/leads, customers, stakeholders, and end-users for any IT project.
